There has been conversation regarding whether or not the most valuable player is in fact the best player as well, comparing the Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry. Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton, weighed in on the discussion, giving his opinion on who he believed to be the best player in the NBA.
While, Curry is the reigning NBA MVP as well as a Panthers fan, the NFL MVP believes he may not be the best player in the league.
“A person asked me, ‘Well, is Steph Curry the best basketball player on the planet?’” Newton said, according to Fox Sports. “I said no. I said Steph Curry is the best basketball player on the best team on the planet,” he said.
“I still think LeBron is [the best player]. He’s 6’7”, athletic, can do anything on the court. But, LeBron is not the best on the team. Going back to what I was saying, the power of team will always be better than the power of skill.
However, when it comes to Cam vs. Curry, Newton confesses the NBA MVP may be better on the court. When asked whether he could beat Curry one-on-one, Newton said, “The competitive Cam? Absolutely! The realistic Cam says no way.”
