The battle rap community is mourning the loss of Canadian battle rapper Pat Stay after he was reportedly fatally stabbed early Sunday morning after a night out in Halifax.
Local news outlets reported that police were called to the waterfront around 12:30 a.m. for a report of a man with a weapon. When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man suffering from stab wounds.
The man, who sources say is 36-year-old Stay, was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his stab wounds. Police have not officially identified the victim.
Police have not identified any suspects or motives in the stabbing and are asking the public for help.
Stay has performed on some of the most significant battle stages, including Ultimate Rap League, King of the Dot, U Dubb, Don’t Flop, Rare Breed Entertainment, and more.
The talented wordsmith recently made headlines for being blocked by The Game on Instagram after challenging him to a rap battle. Stay accused The Game of coming across as a hater for dissing Eminem on “The Black Slim Shady” diss track and for “begging” Em to battle him.
“I gotta say, as a fan @losangelesconfidential, it’s been hard to watch you desperately begging for @eminem attention trying to battle him,” Stay captioned an Instagram post. “Trust me, I respect the hunger, but once you start that whole ‘, he only blew up because he’s white’ type sh*t, it comes off more hater-ish than competitive.”
The battle rapper dropped a diss track aimed at The Game just days before his tragic death, titled “Warm Up.”
