Canadian MP Charlie Angus is not holding back when it comes to Trump’s latest round of tariffs on Canada.
In a speech alongside cultural leaders, activists, and political figures from across the country, Angus accused Trump of waging an economic war against Canada, warning that the tariffs threaten the country’s sovereignty, values, and future.“We are here for one reason: our nation, our beloved Canada, is under threat,” Angus declared.

“It is an economic threat, but it’s also a threat to our values of decency and inclusion. It’s a threat to our sovereignty and our very future as a nation.”Angus did not shy away from directly attacking Trump, referring to him as a “convicted felon” and a “known predator” who is using tariffs as a weapon to harm Canada.
He argued that these trade measures are not just about economics but are part of a broader attempt to undermine the country’s independence.
The Canadian lawmaker also took aim at influential figures like Elon Musk, blaming “hate algorithms of the oligarchs” for amplifying divisive rhetoric. Additionally, he criticized individuals within Canada who, in his view, are willing to compromise national interests to align with Trump and his allies.“The threat comes from people in our own country who would sell out our birthright to appease the gangster class from Mar-a-Lago. That is not going to happen,” he stated.
The speech comes as Canada faces new 25% tariffs from the U.S. on imports, a move the Trump administration says is necessary to protect American industries. However, Canadian leaders argue the tariffs will hurt both economies and disrupt decades of trade cooperation between the two countries.
