Police in our nation’s capital are preparing for the forthcoming gathering at the Capitol…with preparations to deploy officers in large numbers to defend DC and prevent a repeat of the events of January 6.
Capitol Police have an all-hands-on-deck policy, with all field officers anticipated to come up for the protest, so they aren’t outnumbered and unprepared like they were back in January.
Officers are expected to receive an official briefing on strategies for the September 18 rally on Friday. Capitol Police brass will be expected to address questions from the rank and file.
For a long time, many CPD officers have been enraged by leadership’s lack of a clear game plan for a possible replay of the January 6 incident. Many of them, according to TMZ, consider today’s briefing as a solid first step.
Officers will be looking for answers about the use of fatal force and whether to retreat or fight back if perimeter walls and obstacles are breached.
DC Metro police are also preparing for the rally by deploying over 3,300 officers from the department, which they didn’t do before the January 6th insurrection.
According to sources that told TMZ, despite the trauma, officers that worked during the insurrection will be required to work this rally as well. Higher-ups in the department encourage officers to have a therapy session leading up to next weekend’s event.
