Capitol Records Signs First Virtual Rapper FN Meka [Video]

Virtual rapper FN Meka is now the first A.I. robot signed to a major record label.

Meka recently signed a deal with Capitol Records and celebrated the history-making moment with the release of his single “Florida Water,” featuring Gunna and Fortnite streamer Clix. The record was produced by Turbo and DJ Holiday.

Meka’s deal came after he gained fame on TikTok with songs like “Moonwalk,” “Speed Demon,” and “Internet.” The rapper currently has over a billion views and has accrued 10 million followers on TikTok alone.

Capitol Music Group’s Executive Vice President of Experiential Marketing & Business Development, Ryan Ruden, believes the partnership “meets at the intersection of music, technology and gaming culture.”

Meka was created by Anthony Martini and Brandon Le of virtual record label Factory New. The label was the first to “sign” the robot rapper.

“As of now, a human voice performs the vocals. But we are working towards the ability to have a computer come up with and perform its own words. And even collaborate with other computers as ‘co-writers,’” Martini said.
