A Florida man who proudly boasted that he “broke the internet” after he was photographed carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s podium around during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th has been sentenced to 75 days in prison.
Adam Johnson, a father of five went to D.C. to support former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results from the 2020 presidential election.
Johnson was sentenced to 75 days in prison for his participation in the riot at the Capitol.
U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton said Johnson made “a mockery” of the events by grabbing Pelosi’s podium and playing an active role in the attack.
“We’re on a dangerous slide in America,” Judge Walton said, calling the event on Jan. 6 something you’d expect to “see in banana republics.” He also asked Johnson how he could hold himself out as a good role model for his five children when he came to D.C. and did what he did on Jan. 6.
The judge explained that he just couldn’t overlook Johnson’s behavior, which he said was deserving of a period of incarceration.
Johnson will receive credit for some time he’s already served, and will also have to pay a $5,000 fine.
