More details are surfacing amid news of rapper Cardi B filing for divorce from Migos Rapper Offset.
“Offset has pretty much cheated the entire time they have been together, but Cardi looked the other way because of the baby,” a source told PEOPLE.” She also didn’t want to be embarrassed,” the source said, adding,” But she’s had enough.”
Cardi’s lawyer filed legal docs asking for legal custody and primary physical custody of her and Offset’s daughter Kulture. The divorce petition also claimed that she wanted child support, but now, according to TMZ, she says she does not need support from Offset financially. In fact, sources close to her say, Cardi did not know that her lawyer was handling her case this way. She says she wants Offset to have joint custody of Kulture and wants a fair and friendly co-parenting situation.
Cardi’s divorce filings indicate that she and Offset have been living separately for some time now. She also requests that Offset covers all the attorney fees and legal costs acquired during the divorce proceedings. The two apparently do not have a prenuptial agreement, but she is asking that the assets earned and the debts acquired during their marriage be split. Cardi is currently in contact with her lawyer, and the document will be amended to reflect her wishes.
The cheating allegations of 28-year-old Offset began just months after he and Cardi B secretly tied the knot in 2017. Then in December 2018, she told her followers that she and offset “grew out of love.” A week later, following her Rolling Loud performance, Offset issued a public apology, “I was partaking in activity that I shouldn’t have been partaking in, and I apologize. You know what I’m saying? For breaking your heart, for breaking our promise, for breaking God’s promise and being a selfish, messed up husband.”
By January, Cardi B revealed in her Vogue cover story her decision to forgive Offset. “Everybody has issues; I believe in forgiveness. I prayed on it. Me and my husband, we prayed on it. We had priests come to us, and we just came to an understanding like, bro, it is really us against the world,” she said.
“For me, monogamy is the only way. I’ll beat your ass if you cheat on me.”
After the Vogue Interview, Cardi B and Offset’s marriage was rocked again by rumors of him cheating. During that time, Cardi came to her husband’s defense and said that his account had been hacked.
“You know, I know, babe, you’ve done some dumb s**t,” Cardi said in an Instagram live video.
“Everybody knows he’s done some dumb s**t. But come on now, he is not dumb; he is not crazy, we have been so good, we had a sweet weekend, our life has been good, he is not going to play himself like that. That is why I am not going to entertain that, that’s why I’m not getting rowdy. Simple as that.”
In Elle Magazine, Cardi spoke about her relationship and marriage to Offset and how it had been “a lot of drama.” “There’s always rumors about me and my husband, and I feel like people would rather start rumors because they want me to be heartbroken,’ she said.
“They want me to be hurt. I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything. But there is a lot of love, there is a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there is a big friendship. It’s always us against the world.”
The court documents state that there is no chance for reconciliation and that the relationship is broken.
Offset has yet to respond to the divorce petition.
