After winning the defamation case against YouTuber Tasha K, Cardi B now wants a judge to force Tasha to stop posting “harmful and disgusting lies” on the internet.
In 2019, Cardi sued Tasha for posting lies about her on social media. In a dozen videos, Tasha made claims about Cardi, even alleging that she had herpes. A jury later found Tasha guilty of legally defaming Cardi, and she was ordered to pay the rapper $4 million.
Cardi is now back, asking a judge to put a permanent injunction into place. The demand will force Tasha to pull the defamatory claims from the internet and ban her from reposting them.
“Plaintiff filed this action because defendants refused to stop targeting her with harmful and disgusting lies,” Cardi’s attorney said. “Damages alone are inadequate to address the constant ongoing threat of defendants repeating the defamatory statements. Defendants have explicitly said that they will continue publishing the defamatory statements unless an injunction is issued.”
The filing shows Tasha saying on video and the witness stand that she will not be removing the videos about Cardi unless said so by a judge.
Cardi’s attorneys also state that Tasha does not have the constitutional right to “false and defamatory speech.” The statement was made after the attorneys anticipated Tasha’s team might say that the injunction violates her First Amendment rights.
Cardi’s attorneys are clear that the injunction will be “narrowly tailored,” covering only the false statements at issue.
