Cardi B is the first female rapper to have a diamond-certified single for “Bodak Yellow.”
Her top-charting breakthrough single was formally certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America on Monday. This makes the Bronx, New York-bred rapper the first female rapper to have a single go platinum or sell over 10 million copies.
Last night, music industry executive, Brooklyn Johnny, announced her achievement on social media. His post read: “Bodak Yellow is certified Diamond #WAP 5x #CardiB #BodakYellow.” In the video, Bardi, who appears to be in disbelief, asks, “It’s diamond, for real? Certified by the RIAA? For real?.”
Cardi also received a plaque for her now-five-times platinum 2020 summer hit album “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion in the same IG video.
Last August, the collaborative track debuted at No. 1, becoming Cardi’s fourth top-charting single. The single was also the first female rap collaboration to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
