Cardi B has set the record straight about the rumors surrounding her divorce from Offset. On Saturday, August 3, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper took to Instagram to address an article from People, which quoted an “exclusive source” allegedly giving insight into the reasons behind her filing for divorce.
According to the People article published on August 2, the source claimed that as a mom, Cardi B expects a partner who fully contributes and puts the family first. The source suggested that Offset wasn’t meeting these expectations, saying, “He just doesn’t support her like a husband should. She needs good vibes and positive energy only in her life.”
Cardi B was quick to refute these claims, commenting on a post by The Jasmine Brand: “Ok this is getting weird cause I can say he helps me a lot with my business and the kids.” She expressed her frustration, questioning the credibility of People’s source: “Never in my career no matter what I went through I had friends or family go to the media sooo I don’t know who is this damn source going to People magazine.”
She clarified that her divorce filing isn’t about seeking child support but ensuring Offset continues paying for the kids’ expenses. Cardi emphasized, “Even wit my filling I’m not askin for child support my claim is for him to only pay for the bills he already pays on the kids and the new one.”
The divorce news broke on Thursday, August 1, with TMZ reporting that the split is not related to cheating rumors, which have troubled their seven-year relationship. Sources close to the couple stated the divorce has been “a long time coming” as they have been growing apart.
Despite attempts to reconcile earlier this year, they were unable to resolve their issues. The split is reportedly amicable, but Cardi has hired a high-powered divorce lawyer and is seeking primary custody of their two children, six-year-old Kulture and two-year-old Wave.
Cardi B and Offset tied the knot in September 2017 after a whirlwind romance, but their marriage faced challenges early on, including a cheating scandal in 2018. Cardi initially filed for divorce in 2020 but later withdrew the petition.
