Cardi B is clarifying a story she shared about an unusual encounter with the Los Angeles Police Department.
On Monday, Cardi made claims during an Instagram Live session, alleging that LAPD officers had stopped her, accusing her of drug trafficking and carrying a weapon in her vehicle. She further claimed that the officers made her strip completely naked. However, after the story rapidly circulated, the rapper apologized for fabricating the narrative, clarifying that it was intended as a joke and had been misunderstood.
“Ommmgggg noooo this was a joke ….I always do these jokes with my fans on station head I guess it don’t translate well on ig live …..and I guess I said it before you know, bad timing,” Cardi commented under a post made by Power 105.1.
Additionally, Cardi’s team further reinforced their stance by issuing a statement to Billboard, reiterating that her story involving the LAPD was entirely untrue.
“This IG live was taken out of context and there is no truth to this story. Apologies for any confusion,” the statement read.
Earlier this week, the Bronx rapper went on Instagram Live and claimed that law enforcement officers accused her of drug dealing without recognizing her identity.
“They had all the helicopters in LA,” Cardi said. “Yo, I was freaking out. They had me outside for like three hours. They had me getting butt-naked outside. Sh*t was crazy. It was deadass a movie and whatever, but you already know. I’m about to sue the LAPD. I told them, like, ‘Yo, I’m Cardi B. Do I look like I gotta sell some sh*t? Why would I do that? I would never pull no sh*t like that.’”
