Cardi B and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’s Amy Luciani are at war over comments made during an interview. Luciani sat down with The Baller Alert Show, discussing writers’ sessions she’s attended.
When asked about some of the artists she’s written for, Luciani said she is limited in what she can say. But, she described a writing camp she attended where Cardi B was the intended artist for the songs.
“A lot of people didn’t know I wrote for people,” she said. And when asked about some of the artists she’s written for, she said that legally she can only name writing sessions she’s been in. “I have been in writing sessions for Cardi B, and I’ll leave it at that. That was my most biggest opportunity.”
Luciani further explained that the verse she wrote didn’t get used, so she didn’t get any points but “was a writer on the whole project.” Ultimately, she referred to it as a “work for hire” situation, which is common in the music industry.
Cardi caught wind of the comments and was less than thrilled. The “Tomorrow 2” rapper accused Luciani of lying about writing on her album.
“Wow,” Luciani answered. “Cardi I could take how you speaking to me as disrespect. But let’s do this, I’m happy for your success. God is good. Again, you are taking a interview I was truthful about out of of context. Always wishing you continued growth & success.”
Cardi clapped back, calling Luciani disrespectful for alluding to her using writers during the interview.
“You making me look like I have writers camp is disrespectful, YOU makin it seem like my team call you guys to write for ME it’s disrespect,” Cardi wrote back. “My name came up y’all put me in yall conversations if y’all out here writing for y’all to submit a record hoping it gets to me ITS YOU AND YALL LUCK. NEVER HAVE ME AND MY TEAM BOOKED OUT writing sessions.”
Luciani explained to the rapper that she mentioned the writing camp for Cardi because she was proud of it. She brought up that she also mentioned Kelly Rowland as well, not just Cardi.
“I’m sorry if I sound aggressive but my album is my everything,” Cardi answered. “My bread and butter and I take a lot of pride and soo many people have discredited me for my work.”
Luciani once again explained to Cardi that she pulled up to a writing session and was proud to be the only Black woman in the room of male writers. She explained that publishers were looking for hooks, verses, or cadences, and she wasn’t aware of who they were writing for ahead of time.
She also gave Cardi props for being self-made and very successful. In the end, she apologized to Cardi and said she would use it as a learning lesson.
Luciani then commented on an Instagram post, further clarifying what she said in the interview.
“Literally I said in a interview I have been blessed to be in writing rooms and I was in one and Cardis name was brought up that her team was looking for songs and concepts and beats were played,” she wrote. “I am not and have never discredited her. I like Cardi. Never met her but I’m a supporter of her.”
She DM’d me asking me about something that I didn’t say. I was very respectful to her in our private dms. I’m disappointed she decided to screen shot our messages and send them out. I genuinely respect Cardi as a woman, a artist, a writer, a musician.”
Luciani wrote that she felt disrespected by the “WAP” rapper, commenting on how women treat each other.
Even though I feel disrespected from her, I’m not tripping,” she continued. “Women really treat each other like shit and it’s exhausting. I couldn’t have been any kinder and patient with her while we were talking. I would’ve never reposted our DM’s.”
The rapper called out Cardi B directly, expressing her disappointment over the DMs being made public.
“@iamcardib you wrong as hell for doing this and for sending our dms out,” she said. “As women we were talking and getting a understanding and you put it on the internet. All this over nothing.”
