It appears the patience of Queens, New York prosecutors, is coming to an end.
Plea deals have been on the table for the Bronx, New York native since early 2019, but as of Wednesday, prosecutors warned their willingness to work with Cardi may not last too much longer.
According to Page Six, the “WAP” rapper’s legal defense team initially turned down their offers more than a year ago.
“The People are offering for the last time an offer of a misdemeanor. … We are not going to go lower than a misdemeanor,” said Nicolosi in a virtual hearing, which did not include Cardi or her two co-defendants. “We are again offering this misdemeanor, but we cannot guarantee that that offer will be held open or offered again in the future,” Assistant District Attorney Ryan Nicolosi said.
As the clock narrows down, Nicolosi admits it’s unlikely the two will reach an agreement.
“We all had many conversations regarding the possibility of a plea, what a plea could look like if any of the defendants were willing to take a plea,” he said. “But it seems like there is not going to be a plea. “There doesn’t seem to be a meeting of the minds.”
In 2018, Cardi B was accused of throwing a hookah pipe and two glasses at two bartenders, Jade and Baddie Gi, while patronizing Angels, a New York strip club, authorities reported. She is also accused of attacking the two who are apparently sisters over claims that they had sex with her husband Offset. Cardi and Offset are currently separated.
Prosecutors say the attack was premeditated and included two of Cardi’s friends who are also accused of assaulting the bartenders. Each face charges of their own.
Cardi has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include two counts of felony attempted assault. Attorneys representing the defendants purportedly told prosecutors that they would let their clients know the plea deals may expire.
Attorney Drew Findling, who is representing Cardi, did not respond for comment.
