At 2:48 am Monday morning, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd was found at an intersection in Scottsdale, unconscious behind the wheel of his running vehicle. Officials arrested the baller and charged him with two counts of DUI, one count of obstructing a roadway and failure to obey a police officer. He was booked and released within two hours.
Later that day the Cardinals issued a statement saying that they’ve been gathering information regarding Floyd’s latest arrest. Coach Bruce Arians said he had spoken to Floyd to find out what happened and to determine the fate of his career with the team.
Two days later, according to ESPN, the team released the wide receiver.
“There were a lot of factors, but it was a difficult decision for sure,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill told NFL.com, adding there was a consensus among himself, coach Bruce Arians and general manager Steve Keim to release Floyd. “Deeply disappointed it didn’t work out. He was a 2012 first-round draft choice for us, a person we thought would eventually take Larry Fitzgerald’s position and be the No. 1 receiver for the future.”
Floyd went first round in the 2012 draft, 13th pick overall. During his time in Notre Dame, the wide receiver had three booze-related run-ins with the police, including a DUI in 2011. Since then, Floyd claimed to have turned over a new leaf and was undergoing counseling.
