Earlier this week ‘Hot Girl Summer’ rapper Megan Thee Stallion took to social media to inform her fans on the status of her unreleased music, claiming ‘1501 Certified Entertainment’ label owner Carl Crawford was holding her music hostage.
Now that she’s been in the game for some time, Meg says she re-read her contract with new lawyers and asked the label to renegotiate. But Crawford denied and prohibited her from releasing music, which in turn, lead to Thee Stallion’s suit.
However, Crawford is now speaking out to clear his name, as he claims Meg is lying.
In an interview with Variety, Crawford said that when Meg signed a deal with Roc Nation, she stopped honoring her contract with 1501.
“I was blindsided with everything,” he said on the deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. “She fell for the oldest trick in the book. The divide and conquer thing, it worked like a charm. They divided, conquered, make you think everything is bad. Before Roc Nation came, I was an angel sent from above. After Roc Nation, I was the devil.”
Crawford also disputed Meg’s claims that they didn’t put any money behind her, claiming he invested $1.5 million in Meg because he believed in her.
But the problem is, Crawford said he has yet to speak with Megan to give his side of the story.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We haven’t talked one time,” he explained. “Nobody wants to hear my story. Roc Nation comes in and tells you everything that’s wrong, but you can’t find a video before Roc Nation came in saying that she hated 1501. She’s saying that she wanted to renegotiate; I wanted to renegotiate as well. But her renegotiating isn’t what everybody’s thinking. Her renegotiation was her lawyers coming in, saying, ’You better do this or else.’ Of course, I wasn’t going to stand for that.”
Last year, Meg’s mom passed away from an illness. Meg’s mom was allegedly the driving force behind signing her to 1501, and Crawford believes had she still been here, none of this would be happening.
“If her mom hadn’t passed right now, we wouldn’t be in this situation at all,” he explained. “When her mom passed, it opened up a tunnel for snakes to come in. And that’s what happened: her mom died, all the snakes came. Mainly the one snake. It is what it is.”
Crawford also claimed Meg hasn’t paid him “a dime” of what she owes him.
”The thing for them was to keep me out,” he revealed. “People say I’m complaining; I didn’t want to negotiate — no. They tried to cut me completely out of the deal. There wasn’t any negotiating; it was a straight strong-arm. Megan hasn’t honored her contact since she signed with Roc Nation. She hasn’t paid me one dime of what she owes me.”
Elsewhere, Crawford spoke on his relationship with J. Prince, who Meg alleges is attempting to sabotage her with an online smear campaign stating, “People said I ran to get J Prince, but who else am I going to get to help me in this situation? When the whole industry and everybody’s against me?”
“I reached out to J because we’re from the same neighborhood,” he continued. “I know him, I needed help with learning and knowing the business. No one else is. He’s taking me step by step on what to do right now.”
Crawford compared his situation to Damon Dash, who co-founded Roc-A-Fella with Jay-Z, but was pointed to be in the wrong with their relationship went south.
“He’s like a mentor,” he said. “He’s coaching me through the situation. This is my first time going through something like this. When you don’t know anything, they take advantage of you and try to make you look like the bad guy. I understand Damon Dash all the way now because they make him look like he’s the crazy guy. She’s the star, so it makes me the bad guy.”
Meg took to Twitter earlier today to announce her new project, ‘Suga,’ set to be released this Friday, March 6; however, according to TMZ, 1501 wants an emergency court hearing to take place today, to prevent that from happening.

In fact, according to the publication, Crawford has filed a motion to void the temporary restraining order, which would, in turn, allow Meg to release music.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the docs, Crawford claims Megan’s contract says that shall any issues arise between her and the label, they “must be handled in arbitration.”
Crawford also claims that Meg has been booking gigs without running them by the label for approval.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He says that Meg’s decision to release music without the label’s permission goes against the contract and wants a hearing today to prevent her from dropping music Friday.
It’s unclear whether or not the label will be granted the hearing.
