Carmelo Anthony is officially a Los Angeles Laker after finalizing a one-year deal with the team this week.
The move finds Anthony and longtime friend LeBron James reunited after only playing together for Team USA on the 2008 team in China. However, the two never played on an NBA team together. This news is especially exciting for James, who stated back in 2016 that he would take a pay cut to play alongside Anthony, with whom he was drafted during the famous 2003 NBA draft class.
The 37-year-old free-agent forward is coming off of an impressive last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he averaged 13.4 points in 24.5 minutes per game.
Throughout his 18-year career, Anthony has become a three-time Olympic gold medalist and 10-time All-Star. Despite all of his victories, he has yet to play in an NBA Final, which could change during his stint with the Lakers.
Anthony confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, sharing a graphic reading “Melo” with the Lakers logo.
The news comes just days after it was announced that Russell Westbrook would also be heading to the Lakers.
