As Casanova awaits his sentencing later this month for his alleged involvement in the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation gang, he has written a letter to the judge.
In an attempt to seek leniency within the judicial system, the Brooklyn rapper composed a heartfelt letter addressed to Judge Philip Halpern earlier this week. Within the letter, Casanova expressed his renunciation of any affiliation with the Gorilla Stone Nation and openly admitted to experiencing suicidal thoughts during his confinement.
“I am telling you and anyone that will listen that I wanted out before I was arrested and I am out. I learned through my music career that people will listen. And that I don’t need to associate myself with a gang to succeed. I don’t need to associate with a gang even if I don’t succeed,” he wrote.
The letter continued, “While I have been in here I lost my father to cancer. While I put on that strong facade, all I wanted to do was end it. Surviving on Rikers Island and upstate correctional facilities were not easy with racial and gang tension and violence at its height.”
Additionally, Casanova says he believed he needed to be involved in gang life in order to “promote my career.” But, he maintains that he was not “anyone’s boss” during his time with the gang.
Casanova has been behind bars since December 2020 after being named as a member of Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation in their RICO case. In May 2021, Casanova pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and narcotics conspiracy. Nevertheless, the rapper is expected to appear in court on June 27th for sentencing.
