Rapper Casanova was viciously attacked shortly after distancing himself from the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation faction of the Blood gang.
The ambush allegedly took place on Thursday at the Essex County Correction Facility in Newark, New Jersey. According to NBC 4, the Brooklyn rapper was slashed in the face by inmate Ulysses Lugo. Casanova, whose real name is Caswell Senior, then reportedly chased down Lugo with others, jumping on Lugo. Casanova reportedly slashed Lugo several times.
“Inmate Senior was sitting there, and blood was just coming out of his face,” an unidentified corrections officer told the news station. The officer also confirmed that Lugo lost a lot of blood due to his injuries from the retaliation. Sources claim the unit was not appropriately searched leading up to the attack.Â
The incident took place just days after the 36-year-old penned a heartfelt letter to the judge, where he claimed that he wanted out of the gang before he was arrested. Casanova maintained that he is no longer involved with the organization. He felt that he only needed to continue his gang affiliations in order to further his rap career, though he now the Gorilla Stone group won’t help him succeed.
“I was not involved in the daily activities of this gang. I wasn’t anyone’s boss,” he wrote.Â
The “Don’t Run” artist is set to be sentenced on June 27th after pleading guilty to multiple racketeering and drug offenses. As part of the plea, Casanova acknowledged his involvement in a 2018 NYC robbery and a 2020 Florida shooting. He also admitted to conspiring to traffic over 100 kilograms of weed, according to a news release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office – Southern District of New York.
Casanova is facing up to 60 years behind bars.
