Cassie Ventura, the singer and former longtime partner of Sean “Diddy” Combs, returned to the witness stand for a second day in the federal trial against the music mogul. Her testimony added more context to the charges Combs is currently facing, which include sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals for illegal sexual activity. He has pleaded not guilty.
One notable part of her testimony involved a past connection with rapper Kid Cudi. Cassie told the court that in 2011, after she and Cudi briefly worked together and developed a relationship, Diddy found out by going through her phone. She said the discovery led to a heated reaction, and that Combs allegedly threatened to harm both her and Cudi, claiming he wouldn’t use his hands and would be out of the country when it happened. In her 2023 lawsuit, Cassie also claimed Combs had once threatened to blow up Cudi’s car. Cudi later confirmed to reporters that the car did explode in his driveway in 2012, though he didn’t name Combs as being responsible.
Cassie also told the jury that Diddy showed her videos from their time together involving others, saying he had recorded some of their encounters without her full awareness. She said Combs would threaten to release the videos, telling her it would damage her reputation and career. According to Cassie, she felt trapped by the situation.
Her testimony described other difficult moments in their relationship, including arguments that turned physical. In one instance, she said Combs became upset and kicked her in the back as she was leaving his home. She also spoke about emotional and physical stress during and after alleged “freak offs” — the term used in the case to refer to sexual encounters with multiple participants, which she said she didn’t always want to participate in. She testified that she dealt with frequent medical issues afterward and sometimes used IV treatments or pain relievers to recover.
Cassie said her experience affected her mentally and physically and shared that during their time together, she often didn’t feel in control. She also recalled an incident in 2017 before the OVO Festival in which she said Combs entered her room while she was sleeping and a physical altercation took place. She provided photos to the court that showed a cut above her eye that she said required medical treatment.
The trial began Monday and has included testimony from others, including a hotel security guard who said he witnessed Combs being physically aggressive toward Cassie in 2016, and a former dancer who shared his involvement in past events. Cassie is considered a central witness as federal prosecutors outline their case.
The trial is ongoing, and additional witness testimony is expected in the coming days.
