Cassie’s legal team is criticizing Diddy’s recent apology over a leaked 2016 video showing him assaulting her, calling him a hypocrite and suggesting he misled the public.
Cassie’s lawyer, Meredith Firetog, issued a statement on Sunday, saying, “Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt.” She added, “When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday.”
This refers to Diddy’s strong denial in December, following a lawsuit by another accuser. At that time, he stated, “Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family, and for the truth.”
Firetog now says that Diddy’s recent apology is insincere, adding, “That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”
Diddy’s apology video mentioned that he was at rock bottom during the 2016 incident and sought therapy and rehab to work on his issues. He claimed he wasn’t offering excuses for his behavior and expressed disgust with himself, stating he is working on becoming a better man each day and isn’t asking for forgiveness but is truly sorry.
Cassie had accused Diddy of multiple assaults in her lawsuit, which he denied when she first filed. They settled the suit almost immediately. Despite the 2016 incident, Diddy and Cassie continued to date.
Currently, Diddy is under a federal investigation, which he has described as a witch hunt. However, authorities in L.A. have stated they are not opening a case regarding the 2016 assault.
