A cause of death has been determined in the case of the two North Carolina teenagers who were found dead in the backseat of a running car last month.
According to their autopsy results, the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that 16-year-old Ailton Sebastian Tirado-Martinez and 17-year-old Britany Munoz-Ramirez, both died of acute carbon monoxide poisoning on October 24.
The teens were found sitting in the back of the parked car outside of an elementary school on the morning of October 24. First responders discovered their car still running when they arrived on the scene.
An investigation report from the medical examiner detailed that the pair had attended a party the night before. Text messages suggested that the two left the party shortly after midnight to head home, but neither was home the following day.
