Cleveland Cavaliers J.R. Smith is being sued for $2.5 million, by the man he got into an altercation with last November in New York City.
If you recall, a man named Justin Brown, who was 19 at the time, said he approached Smith at a pizza shop after Smith left 1Oak Nightclub. The victim reported that Smith turned down a request for a photo and then choked and struck him in his head and neck area.
Smith was not arrested or charged for the incident.
Legal documents obtained by ESPN indicate that Brown is suing Smith for his physical injuries and emotional distress.
“If they have the audacity to file a frivolous claim against J.R., we will counterclaim for defamation and defend the suit aggressively. This was a cash grab from the start,” said Smith’s attorney, Alex Spiro.
Guess we’ll just have to see how this plays out.
