Today, we celebrate the 42nd birthday of Boosie Badazz, who continues to dominate homecoming celebrations across the country thanks to his timeless catalog.
Born Torrence Hatch Jr. on November 14th, 1982, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Boosie’s rise to fame began in the late 1990s as a member of the group Concentration Camp before he struck out on his own in the early 2000s and became a staple of the Southern rap scene. His early mixtapes, 2000’s “Youngest of da Camp,” “For My Thugz” in 2002, and “Bad Azz” in 2006, laid the groundwork for his reputation as an anthem creator, with the latter spawning street classics such as “Set It Off,” “Zoom,” “My Struggle,” “My N***a,” and “That’s What They Like.”
However, Boosie’s real breakthrough came in 2007, when he was featured on the remix of “Wipe Me Down” by rapper Foxx, which also featured Webbie. The track became a cultural phenomenon, earning nationwide recognition and capturing the attention of HBCUs. An anthem among fraternities, Boosie has been invited to perform his verse from the song across the country at yearly homecomings. The song peaked at number four on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart.
As Boosie celebrates his special day, he’s not just commemorating another year of life but another year of being an icon in the rap game. Here are just a handful of our favorite Boosie Bad Azz songs to add to your playlist.
