While celebrities are constantly surrounded by cameras and paparazzi, some have managed to successfully keep their personal lives under wraps until the right moment. Secret weddings and engagements are the true testament of love and privacy, and there has only been a handful of celebrities who were able to pull this off.
For instance, power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z solidified their position as one of the most talked about secret weddings. In 2008, the two heavy-hitting artists tied the knot in a private ceremony at Jay’s penthouse apartment with only 40 guests. The Carters had planned on keeping their marriage a momentary secret, but a slip-up occurred when they were on the way to pick up their marriage license, and the news was revealed shortly after. However, that didn’t stop Jay and Bey from making their love known to the public. 10 years later, the couple renewed their vows in a second ceremony.
Similarly, rappers Cardi B and Offset took this same approach. Despite Cardi recently filing for divorce, the two started off as “couple goals.” In October 2017, Offset publicly proposed to Cardi while they were performing at the Philly Powerhouse concert. A year later, Cardi revealed she was a married woman since critics called her out for having a baby out of wedlock. But, according to their marriage license, the two tied the knot in September 2017, meaning the couple was already married when Offset got down on one knee. Needless to say, the way Cardi and Offset handled their union may have earned them the title of one of hip-hop’s most intriguing power couples. Sadly, in August 2024, Cardi revealed the couple was divorcing.

But it’s not just musicians that have kept a tight lip on the details of their relationship. Actress Kerry Washington might have taken the trophy for keeping your personal life separate from your professional life. Back in 2013, Washington and her husband, former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, exchanged wedding vows in an intimate ceremony held at the house of a friend of the actress. Since then, Washington and Asomugha have kept their marriage out of the spotlight and have strayed away from sharing details of their relationship. Not only has the couple shied away from letting us into their marriage, they have also kept their kids out of the media. In fact, Washington and Asomugha share two kids: Isabelle Amarchi and Caleb Kelechi.

More recently, rappers Monaleo and Stunna 4 Vegas have joined in on this group of celebs that union under wraps. The “Don Who Leo” rapper took to social media to reveal that she’s been engaged to Stunna for a few months. According to her photos, the couple had a photoshoot where she showed off her ring. Nevertheless, Leo and Stunna’s engagement doesn’t come as much of a surprise since the couple welcomed their first child last year.
These are just a few celebrities who have mastered the art of discretion while balancing their public lifestyles. Whether through planned proposals or spontaneous ceremonies, these celebs have maintained a sense of secrecy within their relationships. Despite fans wanting updates on their lives, the revelations tend to add a bit of excitement and can remind us that outside of the glitz, celebrities are real people who deserve privacy, especially for their intimate moments.
