Today, on Veterans Day, we’re giving a shoutout to some of the living Black celebrities who served in the U.S. military, whether on active duty, in the reserves, or during their early years.

These stars didn’t just make waves in the entertainment industry—they also answered the call to serve their country.

Samuel L. Jackson served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era.

Morgan Freeman spent four years in the U.S. Air Force.

Terry Crews served in the U.S. Army, where he became a squad leader.

Blair Underwood served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Shaggy served in the U.S. Marine Corps, giving us hits while serving his country.

Ice-T was in the U.S. Army before launching his rap career.

Sheryl Underwood was a medic in the U.S. Air Force.

Whoopi Goldberg served briefly in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

Pam Grier was a typist in the U.S. Air Force before she became a Hollywood icon.

MC Hammer served as a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy before stepping into the music scene.

These celebs represent the power of service and show us that heroes come in all forms, on-screen and off. Whether they wore a uniform or took the stage, they all showed up for their country in different ways.

On this day, it’s not just about remembering those who wore the uniform—it’s about recognizing the many ways our community has served, and the impact it continues to make.
