Former NFL star Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson announced on the I AM ATHLETE podcast that he agreed to an exhibition boxing match on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul undercard. This will be the former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver’s first boxing match.
Ochocinco, 43, said he was approached by Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe to fight on the undercard of the June 6 match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. So far, no opponent has been locked in, but the promoters are looking to match him up with an athlete who is not a professional boxer. The bout will be between four and six rounds.
“Everything in life I’m good at outside of golf,” Johnson said. “June 6, ‘Sweet Feet Johnson’ is going to go in there and do what I do best.”
Johnson spent 11 years in the NFL, with the first 10 as a member of the Bengals. He spent one year with the New England Patriots and was cut by the Miami Dolphins in 2012 during training camp. He was a six-time Pro Bowler throughout his career.
According to ESPN, Johnson trained at Mayweather’s boxing club in the NFL offseason.
