Chaka Khan speaks out about Kanye “Ye” West using her as a sample on “Through the Wire”: “I was upset about sounding like a chipmunk.”
The 2003 Kanye hit “Through the Wire” is an all-time favorite jam we all love from Ye. But, for the music legend Chaka Khan, it didn’t come out exactly how she thought it would after West asked her to sample her hit “Woman Like Me.”
During a chat on Dood Day DC, Khan opened up about a previous interview she did with Vlad in which she said West messed up her song by speeding it up on “Through the Wire.” When asked if she’d talked to West since then, Khan said she’s “not looking to hear from him.”
“That’s what he did. That’s what he did with his music,” Khan said. “I was upset about sounding like a chipmunk.”
She went on to say that West didn’t mention that he’d be speeding the song up. “He didn’t mention that he was going to speed it up three times. It’s normal speed. Had he, I would have had something to say. But, since I didn’t think of that, believe me, I think of it now.”
Mama Chaka Khan says 20 years later she still hates Kanye West’s song, “Through the Wire” which is a sample of her song, “Through the Fire.”
