Actress Chandra Wilson will not be saying goodbye to “Grey’s Anatomy“ anytime soon.
After each passing season of “Grey’s Anatomy,” fans are left wondering if the series finale is near. There doesn’t seem to be any slowing down now that the show has been given the greenlight for season 20, and Wilson says she’s in it for the long haul. The 53-year-old, who has been a fixture on ABC’s longest-running medical series, admits she initially thought “it can’t last that much longer.” However, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
“I’m challenging myself to be there until the very last episode, the very last day, the very last scene,” Wilson told PEOPLE during Grey’s Anatomy PaleyFest event days ago.
Wilson has portrayed Dr. Miranda Bailey since the first episode in 2005. When speaking about what is next for her role, Wilson teases that the beloved television surgeon is about to endure professional and personal life challenges as she struggles to balance her work and home.
As Wilson preps for the 20th season, she’s had to say goodbye to several of her coworkers who’ve made the difficult decision to walk away from the show. Last month, Kelly McCreary announced she was leaving “Grey’s Anatomy” after nine seasons. McCreary debuted on the show during season 10 as Dr. Maggie Pierce. McCreary shared an Instagram post showing appreciation for her long-running character. She is not the only actress to leave the series. Actress Ellen Pompeo also announced her departure recently. Both women are stepping away to pursue other opportunities.
For now, that is not in the cards for Wilson, who is sticking it out with the series “until the wheels fall off.”
