Charlamagne Tha God is standing by his friend Andrew Schulz as the internet continues to criticize him over alleged anti-Black jokes.

On the latest episode of “The Brilliant Idiots,” Charlamagne defended Schulz, asserting that comedians should have the freedom to joke about any group without fear of backlash.

“I agree that if you’re a comedian…you have the license to make jokes about any and everybody. Since when do we police comedians? And by the way, if you don’t like the jokes, you have every right to say it. You can rap about it, you can protest about it. You can be offended. You can tweet about it. You can do all of that s**t,” he said passionately.

His comments come amid fallout sparked by Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics in the track “Wacced Out Murals:” “Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman, that’s law.” While Lamar didn’t name Schulz directly, many connected the line to Schulz’s past controversial remarks about Black women on his platforms. Schulz has also faced recent criticism for offensive jokes about wanting to have non-consensual sexual encounters with Lamar, adding fuel to the backlash.

Addressing the controversy, Schulz acknowledged that some comedians use humor as a “smoke screen” for hateful or racist jokes.

“That sucks, and that’s just bad comedy,” he said. “And anybody even online that knows anything about me is being honest, you don’t believe that… You’ve seen me make fun of everybody.”
