As 2017 comes to an end, the hip-hop hosts/personalities that fans love to hate and hate to love compiled lists of the best and most “trash” artists, moments and albums of the year. Although the two agreed that Jay-Z, CyHi The Prince and Rapsody took the year by storm with their album releases, they agreed to disagree about who’s hot and who’s not in the other categories.
But, when it came to the discussion of the top 5 Trash Artists of 2017, the two were able to come to a consensus on one artist who has reigned supreme in the industry for years. Despite her superstar status, according to Joe Budden and Charlamagne Tha God, Nicki Minaj’s year was “f*cking trash.”
“Nicki has to go on the trash list. She is high on the trash list,” Budden said. “She has exhibited a lot of f*cking trash this year, and I’m not talking about music.” However, Charlamagne quickly interjected to say that his decision to place Minaj on the trash list was solely based on the music.
“I can’t remember the last time I saw a superstar of Nicki’s caliber put out three singles at the same time,” Charlamagne said. “The ‘No Frauds’ record had the iHeartRadio stimulus package…She had Wayne and Drake on the record. That record didn’t go, bruh. She had another record with Wayne that record didn’t go, at all. She had a third record, I don’t even know what the f*ck happened to that sh*t.”
“Nicki, I know you’re watching this. You watch everything. I know you’re a little sensitive and I know you think I may have an issue with you,” Budden continued, as he addressed the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap. “I don’t have an issue with Nicki Minaj, except for you cannot post your accolades on Instagram every day for the year. I’m going to call you trash. Because if you have to continuously tell us. …Nicki Minaj is a superstar. You cannot have 90 million Instagram followers and put out three records and none of them catch….. I don’t give a f*ck about your accolades.”
The two continued their explanation, with Charlamagne adding that some of Minaj’s moves behind the scenes were a little shaky as well.
“This is how you know you trash. We in the year of women and you trash,” Budden added, just before the two hosts gave Minaj her props for going off on a few of her features. However, Minaj’s response to Remy Ma sealed the deal for Minaj’s trash year.
