Charles Barkley Pledges $1 Million to Black Women in Alabama For Startups, But “That Does Not Mean Hair Salons and Restaurants”

Charles Barkley is back at it again with the controversial hot takes. After Black women showed up to vote in the Alabama special election, Barkley felt inclined to do something nice for them. But, not without a dig at the entire demographic.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

On Thursday, the Hall of Famer took his seat at the NBA on TNT table to discuss the upset in the Alabama Senate Election. Earlier this week, Doug Jones won the election over a Trump-endorsed child molester, all thanks to Black folk.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Although 92% of Black men showed up to vote for Jones, 97% of Black women made their way to the election booth to save the day. In an effort to thank Black women for their support, Barkley, who was an avid supporter of Jones, pledged $1 million to Black women in Alabama to do startups.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

While the gesture seemed sincere at first, Barkley continued with his pledge, sprinkling in a little ignorance and a dash of stereotypical thinking.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“I’m pledging $1 million to Black women in Alabama to do startups, that does not mean hair salons and restaurants black women, that means startups.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When asked why he had to add that little piece of ignorance, he said the money would be for IT startups. What are your thoughts?
