If you’re a procrastinator like myself, you probably spent the last few days buying last minute gifts for someone. Most likely it was something borderline expensive that your loved one is going to stop using after a few months. But it’s cool, we do it because the Christmas spirit tells us too. One person who isn’t exactly in the holiday spirit is Charles Barkley. In fact, he thinks the holiday is a waste of money.
During an appearance of ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning, Barkley shared his thoughts on the holidays. “Christmas is not a lot of fun for me,” he said. “It’s just a big waste of money. When you’re black and rich, everybody thinks they’re a part of your family. Everybody is a relative. Everybody wants a really nice gift. One year you buy them a house, the next year you buy them a car, the next year you buy them a sweater. They look at you like, ‘You only got me a sweater?’ They always want the gifts to escalate, so you can’t ever get them a sweater if you bought them a house the year before. They get pissed. I’m not a big Christmas fan. I’m a firm believer that Santa Claus should only bring kids gifts. I think Santa Claus should bring everybody gifts until they’re out of high school, and then that’s it.”
I actually know a lot of people who share his sentiments. What are your thoughts?
