The legendary Cher is holding off on her wedding plans with boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards reportedly due to concerns that he may be using her to advance his own career and get close to her $380 million fortune.
“For a while, Cher followed this guy around like a lovesick puppy, but the blinders seem to be coming off,” said an insider, Radar Online reports. And another source said, “Cher’s starting to see Alexander in a different light.”
The two are reportedly still together, but Cher, 76, has put a hold on the engagement. Recently, Cher was seen in Los Angeles without the diamond ring Edwards, 37, had given her.
The ring was first spotted on her finger last December, but some say she bought the ring herself.
Sources claimed that she has been spoiling the producer rotten ever since they got together in Paris last fall, which is concerning to her inner circle.
“Cher has always been so careful about her money, but she was throwing it at this guy and funding his over-the-top lifestyle!” said the source.
Additionally, her children Chaz Bono, 54, and Elijah Blue Allman, 46 fear that her boy toy is after their inheritance.
According to sources, Edwards had a significant impact on Cher, who indicated her plan to work with him to create two albums.
Sources further claim that Cher is growing irritated with his suspicious behavior and his arrogant attitude in the recording studio. She is reportedly beginning to see their relationship as one-sided.
“AE’s always inviting his friends over for parties — and he goes missing and doesn’t answer his phone,” said a source.
It has also been said that Edwards has failed to respect Cher’s decades of experience in the industry. “AE wasn’t even born when Sonny & Cher were topping the charts in the ‘60s,” said a source. “Things didn’t go well when he started barking orders in the studio as he does with younger artists.”
According to Radaronline.com, Cher is starting to realize that the marriage will not work due to them having no similar interests because of the 40-year age difference.
“This was going to happen eventually — or so her friends think,” said the source. “They just hope she’s ok.”
