As you can see the National Football League fined Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall $10,500 for uniform violation of his lime green shoes. Marshall wore these lime green shoes to bring awareness to mental disorder during the National Mental Health Awareness week. Marshall was diagnosed with Borderline Personality disorder and he has a foundation that helps educate others about his illness and fight against mental health stigma. There have been recent reports of suicide, depression and various mental health issues that many of the current and retired NFL players have suffered from.
One thing that keeps people from admitting that they may have a problem is the way our communities react to their issues. The NFL stated, when they found out that Marshall would be wearing these shoes, that he would not be allowed on to the field if he wore them. Later the NFL changed their stance on this issue because of the press and fans reaction to this, but stated that if he wore them he would be fined. Marshall was prepared for the fine, but to be told you may not be allowed on the field is a bit extreme.
Marshall has been fined and now we have to sit and wait on what will the NFL fine next. Tell us what you think!
