If you’re ever looking for a surefire way to get fired from your job, just follow in the footsteps of ex-Bears defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff. The 11-year NFL veteran was cut by the Chicago Bears last week after he made some pretty creepy threats towards the team’s staff members.
On October 21, Ratliff showed up to practice but after getting in a heated argument with general manager Ryan Pace, the team decided it would be best if he went home for the rest of the day. Ratliff later returned to the practice facility to retrieve some of his belongings, and things quickly took a turn for the worse. He was very angry, saying that he wanted to kill everyone in the building. He left again, only to return a second time to get his cell phone. Still in a rage, he told people he was the devil and said that he wished the children of Bears’ staff members would die. After being escorted out for the last time, police were called to monitor the facility in case Ratliff returned. He was immediately released by the team afterwards.
The NFL has decided to investigate the incident further. On Friday, Bears head coach John Fox commented on the situation, saying that he no longer perceived Ratliff to be a threat to the team.
This is not the first time Ratliff has had issues in the NFL. However, it seems like he may be dealing with bigger psychological issues than just an angry outburst this time around and if that is the case, hopefully he can get the help that he needs.
