A Chicago officer has been charged after he pinned down a minor while he was off-duty.
An off-duty cop named Sgt. Michael Vitellaro was captured on the camera back in July, forcefully pinning down a 14-year-old child. The incident stemmed from the officer thinking the child was trying to steal a bike. In the footage, Vitellaro can be seen pressing his knee into the teen’s back.
The video made national headlines, bringing about major backlash. On Thursday, Vitellaro turned himself into Park Ridge police and he was transported to the Cook County courthouse in Skokie. He’s now waiting for his bond hearing, according to The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald, NBC News reports.
Vitellaro is facing misconduct and aggravated battery as charges.
