A Chicago building owner is being fined after a tenant hosted a house party with at least 1,000 people.
According to TMZ, Chicago officials have issued fines to the owner of a Chicago building and cited her for disorderly conduct after she defied stay-at-home orders by hosting a house party with nearly 1,000 people. TMZ reports the fines will be set at a later date but that the owner has been put “on notice.”
The party was all the doings of the owner’s adult child, who had the keys to the home and disarmed the security. There are no details on whether or not the mother knew about the party, but authorities say he has thrown at least one other party at this capacity.
In response to the party, mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, said, “What happened in that scene was just foolish and reckless. There’s got to be a level of personal responsibility for that. Millennials aren’t children.” She added that each party attendee will be held accountable. “Millennials — many of ’em — are in their 20’s. They’re fully functioning adults. And, we expect adults to act responsibly — particularly at a time of a pandemic.”
