Planned immigration raids scheduled to take place in Chicago will likely have to be revised due to alleged risks after the plans were leaked to the media.

President-elect Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, confirmed that the leak has prompted a reconsideration of the operation’s specifics, particularly regarding officer safety. While the operation itself is not being canceled, Homan stated that details would be reassessed to ensure officers’ security.

Homan emphasized that discussing specific plans publicly can endanger the officers involved. He pointed out that the leak provided would-be targets with advance warning, thereby increasing the stakes for law enforcement personnel.

“We’re looking at this leak and will make a decision based on this leak,” Homan said to the New York Post. “It’s unfortunate because anyone leaking law enforcement operations puts officers at greater risk.”

The Wall Street Journal’s report about the raid in Chicago outlined that between 100 and 200 officers were expected to carry out the operation, scheduled to begin Tuesday. However, the leak has forced officials to reconsider the timing and strategy. Homan called the leak “unfortunate,” as it potentially puts officers’ lives in danger. He noted that while Chicago was mentioned in the leaked report, enforcement efforts will continue nationwide, unimpeded by prior administration restrictions.
