A man was charged with first-degree murder after an 8-year-old Chicago girl tragically lost her life while riding a scooter.
On Monday, Chicago police announced that Michael Goodman, 43, had been charged in connection with the death of Sarabi Medina. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood. On Sunday, police were present at Goodman’s apartment building, conducting interviews and gathering evidence, just hours after the shooting.
“It just didn’t make sense. None of it made sense,” neighbor Megan Kelley said. “Everybody in the community would just tell him they are just kids having fun playing. Just let them be.”
Kelley added, “Before he shot her, he had said something about them being too loud.”
Following the shooting, a police report indicates that Sarabi’s father tackled Goodman, and there was a struggle during which Goodman was shot. Subsequently, he was transported to a hospital for treatment.
As of Monday, Goodman was in custody; however, he was not listed in the online records of Cook County court. At the shooting site, stuffed animals and sunflowers were placed at the base of a tree in remembrance of the tragic incident.
