Chicago Police Officials are so outraged by the Prosecutor’s decision to drop all charges against Jussie Smollett that they plan to bill him for wasting their time.
“The City of Chicago will be sending Mr. Smollett a bill,” said Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
Cops plan to bill Jussie for the manpower and resources they’ve used to investigate his claims of alleged assault.
“From a 30,000-foot view, the bill will include the hours, the overtime, the financial costs and the resources that were used” in probing what the Windy City’s cops, the mayor and even prosecutors still believe was a hoax, Guglielmi said.
According to a report from Pagesix, that tally won’t even include the outside resources Chicago cops called in to crack the case.
“It was an extensive investigation that required a lot of review of cameras. There was technical assistance provided by external agencies, but it’ll likely only include Chicago expenses and not expenses incurred by the FBI and other technical experts we brought in for analysis,” Guglielmi said, adding that the city Law Department is crunching the numbers.
Chicago Officials in both the Police Department and the Mayor’s office are said to be incensed that a case that they built into the 16 count felony indictment against Smollett was reduced to nothing.
Meanwhile, Smollett’s legal team is calling the turn of events an exoneration, even suggesting that officials owe Jussie an apology.
“It is the Mayor and the Police Chief who owe Jussie — owe him an apology — for dragging an innocent man’s character through the mud,” Smollett’s lawyers told CNN. “Jussie has paid enough.”
Smollett seems to be moving on with his life as business as usual. The actor was spotted headed into LAX, preparing to attend the NAACP Image Awards.
