The Kansas City Chiefs are responding after domestic violence allegations surfaced online involving wide receiver Rashee Rice, acknowledging awareness of the situation while offering limited public comment.
Rice was not named directly in a statement released by the Chiefs on Wednesday night, but the organization confirmed it was aware of allegations made in a series of social media posts by a former girlfriend. The team said it has been in communication with the NFL regarding the matter and added that it would have “no further comment at this time.”
Earlier in the day, Dacoda Nichole Jones shared multiple photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. While Jones did not name Rice in her posts, she said the individual involved is the father of her children. Jones has two children with Rice, who was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
As of now, no police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas, the suburb where Jones alleges the abuse occurred. There has been no public response from Rice addressing the accusations.
The update comes during what has already been a difficult stretch in Rice’s young career. He missed the first six games of the season after being suspended by the NFL for his role in a Dallas highway crash during the 2024 offseason. That incident left multiple people injured.
Rice later pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years’ probation.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns. Kansas City went 6-11, missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
