Chingy opened up about how a fabricated rumor from transgender social media personality Sidney Starr, claiming they had a sexual relationship, significantly damaged his career. In a recent interview with TMZ, the 44-year-old rapper reflected on the devastating effects of the lie on his once-thriving music career, noting that even Starr’s later admission of lying did little to repair the damage.
“When that happened, I lost a lot based on a lie, which was the oddest thing I’ve ever seen,” Chingy explained. He described the long-lasting impact of the accusation, emphasizing that nothing positive came from the situation for him, even after the apology.
The “Jackpot” rapper lamented the loss of his career’s momentum due to the incident, pointing to shady industry politics and sabotage as contributing factors to his disappearance from the limelight. According to Chingy, the public’s perception shifted dramatically, leading many to speculate about the reasons behind his sudden absence from the music scene.
Chingy also mentioned that although he accepted Starr’s apology, he never fully reconciled with her, preferring to distance himself and move on. “It was like spilled milk, and I lost a lot from it. That person gained,” he remarked, indicating a desire to separate himself from the ordeal entirely.
The controversy began in 2010 when a photo of Chingy and Starr together went viral, leading Starr to falsely claim they were in a relationship. This assertion sparked widespread speculation about Chingy’s sexuality and negatively affected his career trajectory. Starr later confessed in 2012 that she had fabricated the entire story to boost her own career, but the damage to Chingy’s reputation and professional life was already done, and the two remained at odds over the years.
