Chipotle is getting plant-based friendly again with the re-introduction of meatless chorizo.
On Monday, the restaurant chain announced that it would add meatless chorizo to its menu. The option will only be available in certain locations in the United States for a limited time, UPI reports.
“We are thrilled to introduce guests to our new, flavor-packed plant-based chorizo during a season when healthier options are top of mind,” Chipotle Chief Marketing Officer Chris Brandt said in a statement.
This will be the first meatless option since the chain served tofu-based sofritas in 2014. The food chain dropped chorizo from its full menu back in 2016 due to it only accounting for 3 percent of sales.
The no-meat meat is made up of chipotle peppers, tomato paste, crushed garlic, smoked paprika, olive oil and peas. The product was tested in Denver and Indianapolis for the first time last year.
