Chris Brown is back in legal trouble overseas.
The R&B star was arrested early Thursday morning in Manchester, England, in connection to an alleged assault that took place in London over a year ago. Authorities say the singer was detained at the luxury Lowry Hotel on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the arrest stems from a February 2023 incident in which Brown allegedly struck music producer Abe Diaw over the head with a tequila bottle at Tape London, a well-known nightclub in Hanover Square.
“He has been taken into custody, where he remains,” police confirmed in a statement. “The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
Diaw previously filed a civil lawsuit against Brown in October 2023, claiming the Grammy-winning artist assaulted him with a bottle of Don Julio 1942. The complaint further alleges that after the initial blow, Brown proceeded to stomp on and kick Diaw in the back of the neck, leaving him unconscious for nearly 30 seconds. Diaw said the attack left him with serious injuries, including torn ligaments in his leg and cuts on his head.
The lawsuit also accuses Brown of spreading damaging rumors afterward, allegedly calling Diaw a thief to damage his professional relationships.
So far, Brown’s team has not issued a public statement on the arrest.
