Chris Brown is taking legal action against the producers of Investigation Discovery’s docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence, accusing them of promoting defamatory claims and publishing false information about him. In newly filed court documents obtained by TMZ, the Grammy-winning singer alleges that Warner Bros. Discovery, Ample Entertainment, and other individuals involved in the production disregarded facts and created a misleading narrative to damage his reputation.
Brown is seeking $500 million in damages, claiming the docuseries has had a significant impact on his career, business opportunities, and public image. The singer says the project falsely labeled him as a “serial rapist and sexual abuser,” despite what he calls clear evidence refuting these allegations.
In the lawsuit, Brown points to Jane Doe, the central figure in the docuseries, as the source of many of the claims against him. He alleges that the producers built the show around a lawsuit Jane Doe filed against him—one that she later withdrew, claiming the accusations were unfounded.
Brown says that the producers ignored the truth, instead choosing to focus on salacious and sensationalized claims. “Despite being provided with proof that their narrative was false, they went ahead and aired the series anyway,” the court documents read.
The singer also emphasizes that he has never been convicted of any sexual crime, slamming the docuseries for portraying him as a habitual predator.
Brown openly acknowledges his past, including the infamous 2009 physical assault of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, for which he pleaded guilty and completed community service and counseling. However, he argues that the docuseries drags up an “old narrative” and combines it with fabricated claims to mislead viewers.
He says he’s worked hard to take accountability for his past mistakes and spent over a decade rebuilding his career and reputation. The docuseries, he claims, undermines that progress and paints him in an unfair and false light.
Chris Brown alleges the defamatory nature of the docuseries has directly harmed his reputation, career, and financial opportunities. According to the lawsuit, Brown’s public image has been tarnished, making it harder for him to secure endorsements, partnerships, and other professional endeavors.
Brown is seeking $500 million in damages, part of which he plans to donate to victims of sexual abuse if awarded. The singer argues that the producers prioritized “fame and fortune” over truth, choosing to exploit his name and past controversies for profit.
This isn’t the first time Chris Brown has fought back against public scrutiny, but his legal team says this case is about protecting his name and ensuring that false accusations don’t go unchallenged.
