Even though Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith were no longer together during the infamous Oscar slap, he may have had a reason to react so strongly.
Jada dropped major tea on Wednesday, the most stunning being that she and Will are no longer an item. However, Chris Rock shooting his shot at Jada was also news to many. In an interview with People, she shared that when there were reports of her and Will getting a divorce, Rock asked the “Girl’s Trip” actress on a date.
“So he called me, and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized, and that was that,” Jada revealed.
While it’s unclear if Will and Rock ever exchanged words about his date proposal, Will did take issue with Rock making jokes about Jada. If you recall, after Will stormed the Oscar stage, assaulted Rock, and returned to his seat, he yelled out, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth!” This followed Rock making a joke about Jada having alopecia. At the moment, Jada says she thought the moment was part of a prank.
“It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit. I was in as much of a fog as anybody else in that room that night,” she added.
Nevertheless, she hopes both Rock and her husband find peace with the situation and can finally move on.
