#ChrisRock is kicking off the #Oscars a little early with the jokes and shade.
“I’m only here because Ellen didn’t want to do the show,” he joked in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “I’m only here cause Ellen said no. And I’m sure she said no like eight times.”
Reflecting back on when #EllenDeGeneres graced the Oscar stage in 2014 as “the standard,” Rock, 51, praised the talk show host for her performance as she guided the awards show through the night.
Despite the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, Chris Rock is confident that as long as he can start on the right foot, the rest of the night will flow smoothly.
“You can do a pretty decent monologue and be funny two or three other times throughout the show. You’ll be fine,” Rock went on to say. “if you get off on the wrong foot though, it’s a real hard hole to dig yourself out of.”
Rock is anxiously awaiting Sunday’s #Oscar’s award show, while trying to figure out how far is too far when it comes to his jokes and addressing the racial controversy in Hollywood.
“We haven’t really got into that, yet,” he admitted. “You’ll probably say something more risqué at 10:30 than you will at 8:30. Right now I’m just concentrating on the movies. You know, what’s the subjects that are big right now in Hollywood.”
The Academy Awards air on Feb. 28 at 7 ET/4 PT on ABC.
