Following Sunday night’s shocking incident at the Oscars, Chris Rock has decided not to press charges against Will Smith after Smith slapped the comedian/actor for making jokes about his wife.
As of Monday morning, fans are still in shock over the viral moment from the 94th Academy Awards, during which Smith also won Best Actor for his role in King Richard.
In a statement to ABC, a rep for the Los Angeles Police Department said, “LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program.”
Adding that “The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved part desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”
In a separate statement, the Academy said it “does not condone violence of any form” and made clear that the purpose of the annual ceremony is to recognize the accomplishments in film and honor those who have made these achievements possible.
