The Emmy Awards are aiming for big ratings, requesting Chris Rock and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to host the 2022 ceremony.
Both men have been approached to lead the show, though it looks like at least one of the actors has turned down the gig. Chris Rock has rejected the offer, while The Rock has yet to make a decision. However, Deadline reports that the former pro-wrestler is unlikely to accept the job.
Since the infamous Oscar’s slap, the “Down to Earth” comedian has been highly sought after for hosting positions, with awards shows thirsty for viewers likely to tune in, hoping Rock will reference his run-in with Will Smith. Rock stated in April that he would only address the incident when someone cut a big enough check for him to do so.
The Rock is simply too busy with his latest film, “Black Adam,” debuting later this year, and other movie projects in the works.
Last year, comedian Cedric the Entertainer delivered the laughs as host of the 2021 Emmys. He kicked off the show honoring late rapper Biz Markie and appeared to be a big hit with the crowd. It is unclear if an offer has been extended to him to return.
The Emmys will take place on September 12th, so showrunners still have a few months to secure a host for the evening.
