A secret Christina Milian has kept since the age of 18 was recently revealed on Tuesday’s episode of “Christina Milian Turned Up.”
“So I was 17, going into 18, and I met a boy and he had this sarcasm about him that I just thought was super funny,” she explained to Huffintgon Post’s Tanya Williams on the show. “But that sarcasm turned out to be something a little bit more dark, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into.”
In her Huffington Post interview, Christina bravely opened up about her painful past. Christina provided jaw dropping details of her horrific experience that almost ended her life.
“I’ve been holding on to this for too long,” she said. “I lived in fear for a long time. I’m here to save someone. I really want to help other people, especially the youth.”
What once was an innocent normal teenage love, quickly took a turn for the worst when her then-boyfriend’s jealousy and manipulation took hold of their relationship. Anger grew into threats, which later escalated into physical violence.
She says her abuser choked her, kicked, hit, and pointed a loaded gun at her face. “He literally put a bullet in the gun and pointed it at my face. Staring down the barrel of a gun is the scariest thing you could ever experience. It’s not funny, it’s not for the movies. There’s a chance of life or death in one click, that’s it.”
Christina also mentioned how she would wake up to her boyfriend “kicking me and stomping me.”
Christina finally got to the point where she realized enough was enough and mustered up the courage to leave. Thankfully, she was able to get out of the abusive relationship with the hel of her mom by boarding a flight and changing her phone number. Christina hopes that this will encourage others who may be facing similar circumstances within unhealthy relationships.
“There are a lot of girls going through this,” she said. “It happens way more often than we think. This is your choice to live or die.”
